Taking the First Step

May 16, 2025

When the calendar turns over, many people set goals to achieve during the new year. One popular resolution is to prepare a will or estate plan. Maybe you made a goal to create a will or update your estate plan in 2025 but are feeling stuck or unsure how to get started. If so, we encourage you to divide the bigger goal into smaller, more manageable steps. Here are two things you can do to get started:

1. Make a list of the people you want to include in your estate plan. Be sure to include those who are dependent on you and those to whom you want to give gifts of love. The ministries you love may be included as beneficiaries of your estate.

2. Next, create a list of your property and assets, including approximate values. Adding up those values will give you an idea of your net worth. Pray for God’s guidance as you consider how your assets should be distributed to your beneficiaries.

It is a good idea to work with competent counsel to ensure your desires for the distribution of your assets will be completed efficiently.
