Developing a Habit of Prayer

Jesus, throughout His public ministry, prayed to the Father constantly. Jesus prayed for provision. He prayed for wisdom. Jesus prayed for strength. Jesus spent time with the Father to simply give thanks.

Building a life of consistent prayer means building a life with a strong foundation. It looks like regularly communing with God and hearing from Him. It looks like intimately connecting with the Father and relying on God’s guidance and provision.

In a world fraught with upheaval, fear, and strife, choose to pray the words of Scripture. Ask the Lord to open your mind to understand His Word and to open your eyes to His work in the world. Ask the Lord to open your ears to hear His voice and to open your mouth to proclaim His goodness. Ask the Lord to open your heart to pay attention to His image bearers who are in need, to open your hands to give freely, and to open the doors that He would have you walk through.

When you build a habit of prayer, you will be more attuned to see how the Lord is working both in you and through you. Carving out regular time for prayer will not only remind you to lean on God, but it will also present an opportunity for you to praise and worship the Lord. Finally, a consistent prayer practice will prompt you to respond to the Lord in obedience.

Choose to pray:

“Lord, you are good, and your mercy endures forever. Thank you for promising that we can come to you at any time and with any request. We praise you for how you are at work in the world, even when we cannot see it. Help us to develop a regular practice of listening to your voice, of coming to you with our needs, and of interceding on behalf of those who are suffering. We want to be obedient to your Spirit. Thank you for your abundant grace and for the joy we experience in sharing your goodness with those around us.”
