CDF Capital is proud to announce two new hires that took place in the latter half of 2024: Kevin Bates as Vice President of Investor Development and Trent Shivley as Vice President of Ministry Development. Both are serving on our field team led by Mark Briggs, EVP of Lending and Investments.
Kevin brings over three decades of experience in sales, relationship management, and nonprofit executive leadership to CDF Capital. His career exemplifies a dedication to helping individuals and institutions discover their strengths. As CEO of Helping Hand House in Puyallup, Washington, Kevin secured more than $8 million in federal and private grant funding. He was instrumental in guiding Helping Hand House to become the county’s largest provider of homeless housing solutions for families with children.
During his tenure at Evangelical Christian Credit Union (now AdelFi Credit Union), Kevin honed his skills in the financial service field, developing and managing a lending portfolio exceeding $500 million. While there, he was able to create sustainable financial solutions for nonprofit organizations, securing over $2 billion for faith-based real estate projects. These and other professional experiences refined Kevin’s expertise in financial stewardship, making him well-suited to meet the needs of new and existing CDF Capital investors.
Mark Briggs believes Kevin’s background and personality make him a great fit for this role: “Kevin brings many years of ministry experience serving churches and people with their financial needs, plus a contagious enthusiasm for life and the church. We are excited for him to share the CDF Capital mission and story to those we serve so that we can impact even more churches.”
Trent joins CDF Capital with nearly two decades of full-time ministry experience. He also brings a unique blend of vocational experience, having served a few years in the automotive industry. His journey from working in a trade, to becoming a student pastor, to serving as an executive pastor demonstrates his adaptability to changing environments. At Southpoint Church in Trenton, Michigan, Trent’s strategic and organizational skills were critical in launching and managing the transition to multisite ministry. He also successfully oversaw a multimillion-dollar capital campaign, developing systems and structures to enable growth.
After serving as an executive pastor at Southpoint, Trent took on roles in the financial services industry. Trent has developed a passion for coaching churches and individuals in stewardship and personal finances. He serves on the board of New Churches of Christ Evangelism (focusing on operations and business development), and serves as an elder at Hope City Church in suburban Detroit. Trent will oversee our work in some midwestern states (Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania) as well as the New England region.
Mark Briggs affirmed Trent as the right person for the job: “Trent’s many years of service as an Executive Pastor shaped his skill in understanding both the needs of churches and how we can best come alongside them. Before he came on board, the common theme I kept hearing about Trent was how he builds a high-level of trust with those he serves. We look forward to him serving churches well moving forward.”
Kevin and his wife, Lauri, have a beautiful family of seven children, four daughters-in-law, and five grandchildren (with more on the way). They are actively involved in their local church community. Kevin enjoys golf and quality time with friends.
Trent and his wife, Sarah, have been married sixteen years and have two children: Evan and Taya. Their family enjoys exploring state and national parks in their RV.
CDF Capital President and CEO, Eric Schroeder, noted, “I am excited about these two great additions to our already outstanding team. As an organization, we are focused on serving our clients, and I believe we have the best team in our industry to serve them well.”
With their combined experience in ministry, finance, and leadership, Kevin and Trent will enhance our ability to serve churches and investors, bolstering our mission of helping churches grow.
