Great Is His Faithfulness

I am old enough to recall one of the great hymns of Christianity, “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” No doubt many of you can also hum that majestic tune as you read these lyrics.

Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father,

There is no shadow of turning with Thee;

Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not;

As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!

Morning by morning new mercies I see;

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

As I recall this song of worship ringing out in the old church of my youth, it causes my skin to tingle and my eyes well up with tears.

How could CDF not be overwhelmed with thankfulness? For we have indeed experienced His faithfulness morning by morning, month by month, year by year, decade by decade since 1953.

My relationship with CDF only goes back about 20 years, but in that time, I have witnessed her work from almost every viewpoint imaginable. From being an investor and donor, all the way through serving on the Board, I have observed every facet of CDF’s work. For the last five years, I have had the unique opportunity to serve as her President.

Through all of those years, and from every vantage point, here is my one primary observation about our history: God has faithfully provided everything needed for CDF to help His church grow.

During those 65 years, CDF has:

  • Helped churches obtain or expand buildings when NO ONE else would help.
  • Walked alongside churches whose Kingdom impact has exploded and changed the world.
  • Counseled with churches who have experienced great setbacks.

In the last 65 years, we’ve loaned about $2 billion to assist with approximately 1,000 church building projects. That is an impressive number. As the Farmers Insurance commercial says, “We know a thing or two because we’ve seen a thing or two!”

But the more difficult item to measure—and the much more important item—is the number of lives who have been served and changed through God’s work in those churches. We estimate it is in the millions, but only God knows for certain.

As we pause briefly to celebrate our 65th anniversary, there are three overwhelming thoughts that come to mind—CDF Capital is committed, humbled, and thankful:

  • Committed to future service and faithfulness in this important endeavor.
  • Humbled God would allow our team to serve the mission of helping His church grow.
  • Thankful for God’s faithful provision through more than six decades of our work.

So much of God’s provision comes through you, our investors. You are part of a nationwide community of thousands of families who invest their earthly treasure with CDF. God has used you over the last 65 years to serve at the center of all that we do.

As I read through the articles in this edition of The Cornerstone, I can’t help but think about the future. I do not know what the future holds for the next 65 years. Will CDF Capital still be at work in the year 2083? Will our broken world even last that long? Or will Christ return by then?

Only God knows.

But here is what I do know: God is faithful in all times and in all ways—and we are committed to being faithful in return.

Great is His faithfulness, indeed.

In His Service,

Dusty Rubeck, President
